Baby Onesies- DIY
Yesterday I attended the baby shower of my former boss-turned great friend and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to make a custom gift for her since she is also a designer! I was running low on cash, but I also love custom gifts, so I just bought a pack of 3 white cotton onesies for $5.99 at a baby store. I already have iron-on paper at home so all I had to do was get on the computer and design! I get excited about that part! I love incorporating my culture and second language into my designs so I chose two phrases in Spanish to work with. I absolutely love designing type! I love playing with the sizes of the typefaces and colors! Here are the steps below: The iron-on sheets I bought at Staples are 8.5 x 11in and work with an inkjet printer. The onesies are so cute and tiny so I decided to split the canvas in half and do two designs. With the extra space I wrote the baby's BEAUTIFUL and unique name (like mine lol) in different typefaces so I can cut everything out after. Once I was happy with the designs I flipped them so it became a mirror image.
Next, I cut each individual design out and placed them on the onesies where I wanted them.
You have to apply the iron at the highest heat where there is NO STEAM. (Which is level 3 on my iron.) You also have to apply pressure, make sure you get the corners so they don't lift up!
And viola! Here is the finished product! They came out so cute and everyone loved them!
Top: Text reads, "Sleep all day, party all night"
Top: All three designs.
Top: Close up. Text reads, "I am the perfect result of the love between mom and dad."
I put her name on the back as well!
Finally, I just placed it back in it's original packaging so they wouldn't get messed up. This project was SO MUCH FUN. I hope you guys learned a few cute techniques, and remember hand made gifts are always so special! <3 <3
