Color Story at Macy's
Being in the world of design, marketing, and advertising as my profession, I can appreciate a good pop-up. Story at Macy's is taking it to a whole other level where they combine an immersive experience with a shopping experience. This is a rotating "Story" that will be going on at Macy's and it's first theme is COLOR. I love this idea because you can walk around and the colors will draw you in, but then they have products scattered throughout that coordinate with the color of the space. This is a really great marketing tactic and I love how you don't feel pressured to buy anything, you just enjoy the experience and if you just so happen to buy something it's a win-win!
Lets start with this Insta-worthy rainbow walkway on the main floor. How awesome is this?! It also lights up and flashes!

Once I saw that everything in one specific section was one color I immediately gravitated toward purple because that's my favorite color. I was interested in what purple products they had and they did not disappoint. There were amethyst products, cute bags, and even chocolates! I feel like each color even had their own personality. The red and orange sections were filled with funny and sassy products like pizza socks and quoted bags and the pink section had a lot of sparkle.
One of my favorite photo opportunities was this wall of rainbow toilet paper. It was just the perfect backdrop and I didn't even realize it was toilet paper until I got really close. I just propped my phone up, set the timer, and voila! It was pretty amazing that I had this space all to myself.
When have you ever played with a life-size Lite Brite?! I don't know about you but I BEGGED for a Lite-Brite as a kid and I was obsessed with mine. This was one of the many nostalgic things at Color Story and I love them for it. It was really difficult making a picture unless you stepped really far back, but I managed to make a little something...
Another big marketing tactic was by Mac Cosmetics. They had a table set up where you could make your own eyeshadow palette! This is their wall of eyeshadows which also made for a great backdrop!
Can't go wrong with a wall full of crayons! Did anyone else just go up and smell it or was that just me?
I loved this space and I can't to see the next theme! Thanks for checking out this post. Stay tuned for new art adventures in the city! Color Story is located in the mezzanine of Macy's Herald Square. Follow @Story on Instagram for more experiences!
