Chelsea Art Galleries
"Twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo will transform multiple rooms into an immersive installation that combines drawing, painting, collage, mixed media sculpture, and kinetic and audio elements."
http://www.lehmannmaupin.com/exhibitions This gallery I found most impressive because I love mixed media, and I love when the artist takes the viewer on a journey through light, color, and sound. Every inch of the room was covered and the closer you looked, the more you saw.
Markus Linnenbrink, HOWCANISLEEPWITHROCKSINMYBED "Markus Linnenbrink builds his paintings on wooden panels, mixing pigments with epoxy resin to create layered compositions in a resplendent array of colors. Though he selects where the colors begin at the top of the panel, the liquid interacts with gravity to “draw” vertical stripes over photographs or watercolor backgrounds. Linnenbrink collects the runoff from this process and transforms the spillage into other paintings—forming discrete layers from which he drills and carves compositions. Clusters of excavated craters or deep jagged rifts define the topography of the resulting works." http://www.amy-nyc.com/exhibitions/markus-linnenbrink I was in heaven when I stepped in here. I love really colorful, shiny things but when you walked up to these pieces it was so much more than that. I was most amazed by the countless amounts of layers created by the artist. Using the remains of other art pieces to create new art pieces is such a beautiful concept; it creates a never-ending flow of art and creativity. I love the idea of leaving it up to gravity.
Mr. Brainwash, Brainwashed "Thierry Guetta aka Mr. Brainwash first gained notoriety in 2010 for his role in the Banksy- directed documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Since then, the artist has achieved commercial success around the world and participated in numerous gallery & museum exhibitions."
http://www.taglialatellagalleries.com/exhibitions/brainwashed First off I have a special connection to Charlie Chaplin because I grew up doing theater and vaudeville, so that's what drew me in. After I got past the initial awe of Chaplin, I looked around to find that I was definitely in Mr. Brainwash's world. This to me felt so New York with the spray paint, mixed medias, and mixing old with new art to create fun (and huge) pieces.
