HUNGRY IN HEELS

La Loteria - NYC Restaurant Week

It's the most wonderful time of the year! NYC Winter Restaurant Week is from January 22 - February 9, 2018. 3 courses, one fixed price, and a bunch of restaurants in the city participate. A foodie's dream! I love going out for NYC Restaurant Week because I can taste different cuisines for a great price. Lunch and Brunch is $29 and Dinner is $42, and you get an appetizer, entree and dessert.

This year, I went to La Loteria in the West Village and loved it!! The service was amazing, the food was delicious, and their restaurant week menu had great selections.

We started off with the Sangria del Cantarito (Chef's special Mexican-style Sangría) which was awesome! They described it as having red and white wine, rum, citrus, and other fruit combos. Very strong and worth the price!

The appetizers were amazing! My friend got the Empanadas de Tinga Poblana (Chipotle pulled chicken, chorizo, rajas poblanas, chihuahua cheese) and I got the Flautitas de Pato en Trilogía de Salsas (Crispy corn tortillas, shredded duck-confit, corn, caramelized onions served with a trio of salsas: avocado-tomatillo, mole poblano, chipotle aioli).

The empanada tasted like a cloud! The dough was so soft and pillowy, and the meat was perfectly seasoned with the perfect amount of spice. The sauce complimented it very well.

The flautitas were delicious! They were perfectly crispy, and the pomegranate seeds paired well with the level of spiciness. The duck was cooked perfectly, I couldn't get enough.

The entrees were pretty great too. My friend ordered the Tacos de Chicharrón de Puerco (Pan fried pork belly in chile pasilla, cotija cheese, guacamole, mango pico de gallo, pickled onions) and I ordered the Tacos de Pescado Baja style (Mexican beer-battered catch of the day, jicama coleslaw, guacamole, valentina aioli). My fish was perfectly crispy, and I appreciate anything with guacamole. The pork in the pork tacos was cooked perfectly as well and the mango was a good addition. In past years, I have gotten only 2 tacos per order for restaurant week so I was pleasantly surprised to see 3 tacos per order.

We also got a side order of Platano Macho (Fried plantains, cream, cotija cheese) because I cannot resist platanos anywhere I go, especially with some cinnamon and cheese on top! Mmm!

There were only two options for dessert which made me sad because of my love for sweets, but the Flan Napolitano (Mexican custard flan with a cream cheese base, dulce de leche and cinnamon-toasted walnuts) and the Churros (Cinnamon-dusted churros with chocolate and dulce de leche dipping sauces) were both so good! I normally don't like flan but I enjoyed the soft and creamy texture of this dessert.

Overall we enjoyed ourselves and definitely plan on coming back here again! I highly recommend La Loteria in the West Village! You will definitely feel welcomed here!

La Loteria is located at 29 7th Ave South (between Bedford & Morton). Thanks for checking out this post! I hope you return for more foodie finds!
