Poción Lounge

One of the many great things about New York City is the plethora of food choices. I happen to live in Washington Heights where there are many places opening up with the change of the neighborhood. One of these new restaurants is Poción Lounge  on 177th between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue. This is the first ever vegan bar & lounge in Washington Heights! 

I am not vegan or vegetarian but I have many friends that are, so I've had my fair share of vegan treats. Poción Lounge serves all natural vegan bites fused with delicious Caribbean flavors and hand crafted cocktails with medicinal properties. What intrigued me the most was that this was food I grew up with at home! I definitely thought to myself, "How do they make pastelon de platano vegan?"

I've been really into coconut cocktails lately so I chose El Blankito which is Brugal Añejo Rum, Coconut Cream, Amontillado Sherry Lime, Poción Bomb-Orgeat Syrup. This drink was not only beautiful to look at but it was very delicious and it packs a punch!

Me and my friends ordered the Hummus Trilogy (Sweet Potatoes & Chipotle, Baby Spinach & Lime Juice, & Hemp And Turmeric), Pastelon de Platano Maduro (Roasted Sweet Plantain, Vegan Ground Beef “Bolognese Style”), Empanadas ( One Vegan Ground Beef & Sofrito and One Portabella, Curry & Tofu), and the Niños Envueltos (Creamy Corn With soy milk, brown rice & vegan “meat”, wrapped in Baked Spring Rolls, Tomato Curry Sauce).

I'm just going to get to the point and say this food was some of the most delicious food I've had, period. The pastelon was my favorite dish and I couldn't get enough. I will definitely be returning to try their other menu items and definitely to have some dessert! I was caught up in celebrating with my friends and forgot to order dessert, tragic, I know! (I will also bring my nicer camera next time.)

Overall, Poción Lounge is an excellent place to grab a bite to eat, vegan or not. You all should check it out! Poción Lounge is located at 704 West 177th street in Washington Heights.
