Blueberry Pie Costume - DIY
Happy Halloween! This year we were allowed to dress up at work so I whipped up this blueberry pie costume the night before ;). I bought the felt at Michael's, and I already had all of the other supplies at home. I love having fun with my Halloween costume each year and my favorite thing to make are food costumes so this was a real treat! I wanted to make sure I could still sit at my desk at work so I made it about torso's length. However, you can make it any size you want. Things you will need: Beige and brown felt for the crust Purple felt for the filling (or red or orange or brown or green for any other pie of your choosing) Scissors Needle and Thread White tissue paper for the Cool Whip (optional) Stuffing (anything to stuff your pie with, I used plastic bags) I used this photo I found online of a baby's costume as inspiration and just improvised. I love felt. It is easy to mold, cut, and shape into anything you like and it is very forgiving, so if you make a mistake you can fix it easily. It also comes in great colors to use!
First, I cut out my front and back pie crusts. Next, I cut out the purple filling to match. While sewing this on, I left a pocket to fill the space with stuffing, in this case plastic bags, to give my pie a 3 dimensional look. Then, I cut the remainder of the felt into strips for the lattice pattern and crinkled the brown felt for the crispy edges. Sewing the lattice was tricky so I did it separately and placed it on top. Finally, I used two left over strips of felt for the straps and sewed everything together! At the last minute I added the white tissue paper as Cool Whip, I could do with or without, it's totally optional. Please look through this gallery to see how my costume came together!
Thanks for checking out this DIY! Happy Halloween!
