Pio Pio - Hell's Kitchen
Last year, Zuly and I managed to go to a different place to eat each month and this year we plan to keep up that tradition. If you have any suggestions, please let us know! Pio Pio is a Peruvian restaurant known for their rotisserie chicken and green sauce. It has always been one of my favorite restaurants and I was so happy to go to their Hell's Kitchen location for the first time for this month's Foodie With Zuly. Each of their locations seems to have a different food and drink menu so I'll just have to pay a visit to all of them, including their first location in Queens. Challenge accepted! This location is gorgeous! The walls are covered in what looks like branches from floor to ceiling. There's a great ambience to this place and the music is really good.

For our starter we had tostones and the Tamal Limeño which is a traditional Peruvian yellow corn tamal, stuffed with juanita’s chicken, served with salsa criolla. This was spicy and delicious! It was especially good with the onions and corn it was served with!
We both had the pisco punch pictured here.
What caught my eye immediately on the menu was the Tacu Tacu which is Peruvian refried rice & beans, filet mignon strips, and a fried egg. I can't even begin to tell you how delicious this was. The refried rice and beans was perfectly plated in a small tower topped with the fried egg so when I cut it open the yolk just coated everything beautifully. The steak was great and was a great addition to the already flavorful plate.
Zuly had the Lomo Saltado which is filet mignon strips stir-fried with soy sauce, spices, red onions, cilantro, and tomatoes, served over french fries with white rice. What a mouthful! This really was home-cooked comfort food! The portions are large enough to share and that we did!
We left Pio Pio happy and full! I definitely want to go back to taste more things on the menu. Thanks for checking out this post! Check back for another Foodie With Zuly adventure next month.
Pio Pio is located in Hell's Kitchen at 10th avenue between 43rd-44th street.
